On April 26, 2025, we invite you to the largest amateur swimming competition in the Łódź province. In the competition, over five thousand participants have taken part so far in the open category and family relays.

The event is organized in tribute to Józef Jurek, nicknamed “Zawór”, a great advocate and pioneer of swimming in Zgierz.

The aim of the competition is to promote a healthy lifestyle and to promote swimming as a general development sport.

We cordially invite entire families to the event, it is a great opportunity to have fun together and spend time actively.

The Zawor Memorial is a great sports celebration of friends, colleagues and supporters of Józef Jurek, nicknamed “ZAWÓR”.

For 31 years, the swimming pool at 1 Leśmiana Street has hosted swimming competitions of the Zgierz championship rank, called the “Zawora” Memorial. The largest amateur competition in the province and probably in Poland, with a total of almost five thousand participants. The participants swam in five age groups, family relays and the Open category. The participants were aged from 5 to 85.

Since the first Memorial on Saturday afternoon, April 9, 1994, these competitions have become a permanent fixture in the city’s sports calendar.
